Events and News

We've hosted a number of wonderful events here at the Centre with highlights shown below.

This is the country’s only officially recognised Mercedes-Benz Club, and we are delighted to be hosting their inaugural North Midlands Club Car show here on Sunday 20th August 2017 (11am until 4pm).

If you're interested in cars and Mercedes-Benz in particular, then you are going to love what's on offer. Some of the exciting cars on display* include:

  • 1959 Mercedes-Benz 190SL

  • 1968 Mercedes-Benz 300SEL

  • Award winning 1980s 500SL

  • Early 1990s 500E (extremely rare and only made in left hand drive)

  • 2010s AMG SLS (Gullwing two seater)

  • 2000s AMG SL Black

There will be other saloon cars, AMG's and convertibles such as SL's and four door E class convertibles to view and we're excited to see what vehicles Mercedes-Benz of Tamworth will be bringing along to the Centre. In addition, you will also be able to get your own tyres checked on site with Trade-Tyres of Shenstone, who will be on hand to offer expert advice on all things tyre related.

As well as the Car Show, the Centre’s other businesses and retailers will be open as usual. From antiques to gifts, there’s even a garden centre and Mabel’s Tearoom, so there will be plenty of things to see and do for all the family during the day.

The event will culminate in an award being given to the owner of the best turned out car? How will the judges decide with such a great range on display? Come along to Curborough for what promises to be a great event, and to see if you agree with the judges decision!

(* Please be advised that all vehicles stated have been booked on a provisional basis and cannot be confirmed until the day of the event)

On Thursday 20th April and Sunday 7th May, we held our first Dinosaur Encounter events here at the Centre. It was brilliant to welcome over 420 children (and their families!) over the 2 dates.

The dinosaur show was an absolute treat - the children were initially introduced to some ancestors of the dinosaurs including some snakes, lizards and snapping turtles. The snapping turtle in particular looked unbelievably pre-historic.

After this, the children got to meet "Rex" - a five year old T-Rex! Who knew that real life dinosaurs are still found in Curborough? :) The reaction of the children's faces when Rex emerged from behind the trees was priceless.

A big thank you to Byron at Lichfield Garden Centre, and to all his team, for organising the event. It was brilliant fun and definitely a memorable experience for everyone that attended.

We held our annual Festival of Artists event here at the Centre on Saturday 29th April through to Monday 1st May.

The place was a hive of activity throughout and we've had lots of great feedback from artists and visitors alike. We reckon this years festival must go down as the best one yet....we certainly saw lots of people walking back to their cars with lots of new artwork purchased.

On the Saturday of the event we welcomed Touch FM who did a live broadcast from the Centre. They interviewed several of our permanent studio holders and also some of the visiting artists so it was great exposure for both the festival and our Centre.

With over 50 visiting artists on display across the site, visitors were treated to stunning exhibitions as well as brilliant live demonstrations. As is always the case with the festival, it covered such a broad cross section of art including painting, drawing, wood turning, stone-carving & textiles, so there was great variety on display.

This year's winner of the Geoff Hollinshead Award was Paul Holmes (facebook @art.sandalwood). Picking a winner was such a hard task given the exceptional talent on display, but the judges ultimately decided on Paul as they were blown away by the diverse range of paintings and subject matter on view.

A big thank you for all the hard work put in to organising the event by Kara Strachan of the Art Loft, and to the farm for all their efforts. It's no easy task putting up & taking down all of our event marquees!

Last but not least, thank you to all the wonderful artists. It was fascinating to see all your artwork and to be able to watch your demonstrations - we look forward to being inspired by you all again next year!
